Reinforcing its role as a globally competitive and innovation-focused institution, Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) has ascended to the Top 121 in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), up from 144 last year. This marks the University’s continued rise in the global academic landscape, driven by initiatives that combine education, community impact, and forward-thinking solutions.
OLFU was also recognized in three specialized categories, highlighting its initiatives that address real-world needs, promote cultural and social inclusion, and integrate advanced technologies into education and operations.
This marks OLFU’s fourth consecutive year of inclusion in the WURI rankings since first being listed in 2022. The University continues to be acknowledged for embedding innovation across its academic, operational, and community outreach programs.
Among this year’s recognized initiatives is the award-winning Multiple Applications for Reality-Virtuality Experience Laboratory (MARVEL), a government-funded project developed by the University’s Research Development and Innovation Center (RDIC). MARVEL was cited for its application of immersive simulation technologies in medical and allied health education, as well as in training and community engagement programs.
In the area of strategic operations, OLFU’s SHADE Program which focuses on Scheduling, Hiring, Automation, Delegation, and Empowerment, earned distinction for its role in streamlining institutional management and promoting operational efficiency.
Additionally, a notable entry in the social responsibility category is the Katutubo Market, a culturally sensitive entrepreneurship initiative that supports the Aeta Indigenous communities of Porac, Pampanga, affectionately referred to by the University as kapatid or brothers. These communities have long faced economic marginalization due to systemic discrimination and exploitative trade practices, particularly through underpricing by middlemen vendors.
To address this disparity, OLFU established the Katutubo Market as a recurring on-campus trade fair. It provides a direct platform for indigenous farmers to sell their products at fair market prices, thereby promoting equitable trade and economic empowerment.
WURI, or the World University Rankings for Innovation, distinguishes itself from traditional academic ranking systems by emphasizing real-world impact over reputation or research output. Through a peer-reviewed, category-based evaluation system, WURI highlights higher education institutions that demonstrate social responsiveness, creativity, and ethical application of knowledge.
With 16 evolving categories, the WURI framework evaluates how universities contribute to solving global challenges through practical innovation that benefits communities, industries, and society at large.
OLFU’s continued presence in the WURI rankings aligns with its institutional mission to develop graduates who are academically proficient, socially responsible, and globally competent. These recognitions also reinforce the University’s adherence to its core values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence (RISE).
