It is happening, most definitely. Two athletes from the Basic Education Department (BED) of Our Lady of Fatima University-Quezon City Campus (OLFU QC) ferociously and courageously swam their way to earning the right to compete in the country’s Palarong Pambansa 2023. Congratulations to Arbeen Miguel Thruelen (Grade 10) and to Paulene Beatrice Obebe (Grade 6) who will be competing at the Secondary Level in the said national meet slated in July 2023.
Making it to the Nationals!
The journey towards the Palarong Pambansa was hard and rough. From smaller local meets, Thruelen and Obebe bravely inched their way to the bigger competitions— of which the most recent was the National Capital Region Regional Athletic Meet 2023 (NCR Palaro 2023) held last April 15, 16, 22 and 23, 2023 at the Muntinlupa Aquatic Center.
Here, OLFU BED’s water-strokers showed their mettle, racking up victories and medals which propelled them to qualify for the Palarong Pambansa. In the regionals, Thruelen won silver medals in the 200m Butterfly, 50m Butterfly, and Relay QC, then won bronze medals in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle, and Relay QC. On the other hand, Obebe was awarded gold for the 4×50 Freestyle Relay; silvers for the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, and 4×50 IM Relay; and a bronze for the 100m Butterfly. She was also Top 6th in the 100m Freestyle. The Palarong Pambansa 2023 is coming up on July 28 to August 05, 2023 at the Marikina Sports Center. Be sure to give the formidable duo of Thruelen and Obebe a big thumbs-up!
