The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) formally approved the charter of the Manila Chapter on 23 March 2026, marking a significant development in the country’s computing and information technology landscape.
Dr. Raymond S. Macatangga, Dean of the College of Computer Studies at Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), was appointed as the chapter’s founding Chair. Joining him in the leadership team is Dr. Londren Velasco, OLFU Information Technology Program Head, who will serve as Membership Chair.
The establishment of the ACM Manila Chapter signals an expansion of the organization’s presence in the Philippines, providing a platform for computing educators, researchers, and industry professionals to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and address emerging challenges in the field.
ACM, recognized as the world’s largest computing society, plays a pivotal role in advancing the computing profession by promoting high standards, fostering technical excellence, and strengthening the collective voice of its global community. It supports professional development through initiatives in lifelong learning, career advancement, and networking.
Founded during the early years of the computing era, ACM has grown into a global organization with a membership exceeding 100,000, more than half of whom are based outside the United States. Its international reach includes regional councils across Europe, India, China, and Asia, which facilitate cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange among computing communities.
Through these initiatives, ACM continues to elevate awareness of critical technical, educational, and societal issues in computing, reinforcing its role as a leading force in shaping the future of the discipline.
