23 March 2023 is marked as a day when illuminating news was received. In an email to Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU), THE Awards Asia 2023 confirmed that OLFU has been included in the competition’s shortlist of nominees under the category of Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year. Such already inspires jubilation because with almost 700 entries submitted to THE Awards Asia by premier educational institutions, only eight nominees for each of the 10 categories could be included in the shortlist. Hence, OLFU proudly counts itself among a select and elite group of 80 nominees.
OLFU’s co-nominees for Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year are: Japan University of Economics (Japan), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia-Faculty of Medicine (Malaysia), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (India), Macau University of Science and Technology (Macau), Nanyang Technological University: Cyber Aware Ecosystem (Singapore), Nanyang Technological University: Sustainable Campus Mobility (Singapore), and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (India).
Phil Baty, THE’s Chief global affairs officer, shared:
“This year brought a huge increase in the number of THE Awards Asia submissions, from all corners of the continent. Of course there were strong entries from world-renowned universities, but just as impressive were the many compelling submissions from less well-known institutions detailing how they leveraged their academic and professional expertise to perform near miracles in their uniquely challenging circumstances. And this reflects the inclusive nature of these awards, allowing us to identify and amplify stories of universities succeeding and making an impact – wherever they are in the region.
It’s clear that the Covid-19 pandemic has done nothing to stem the sector’s enthusiasm and desire to keep improving; indeed, the opposite is true – inspirational and innovative stories abound on these shortlists, and we are honoured to be able to shine a spotlight on them.
Inevitably with so many entries, some wonderful stories had to be excluded as we whittled the entrants down to the 80 featured on this year’s shortlists. All those nominated should be incredibly proud to be in the running.
We look forward to celebrating your success at the Asia Universities Summit in Hong Kong in June.”
The actual awarding rites will be held in conjunction with The Asia Universities Summit at The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 21 June 2023.
