A total of 128 students from the College of Hospitality and Institutional Management (CHIM) and the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) were formally commissioned for the United States Summer Work and Travel (WAT) Program during a send-off ceremony held 16 March 2026, at the San Lorenzo Hall of the OLFU Valenzuela Campus.

Anchored on the theme “Bridging Cultures, Building Futures: Commissioning Students to be Global Citizens,” the ceremony marked a significant step in the University’s continuing efforts to provide international exposure and experiential learning opportunities for its students.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Gemili Cabatic, Program Head of Hospitality Management (HMD) Valenzuela, emphasized the transformative value of global mobility programs. She noted that participation in international work and travel initiatives cultivates cultural sensitivity, adaptability, and a broader worldview—competencies essential for both professional advancement and meaningful engagement in diverse environments.

Representatives from OLFU’s partner organizations delivered messages of support, underscoring the collaborative framework behind the program. Aaron Black, Chief Executive Officer and President of ZIP Travel Philippines, encouraged students to view challenges abroad as opportunities for growth. Jerico Bautista, Business Development Manager of First Place, Inc., highlighted the importance of resilience and teamwork in international workplaces. Meanwhile, Justine Dominique Ramos of UTP Beyond Borders called on participants to uphold the values of cultural exchange while representing the University with integrity.

A panel discussion titled “Life in the USA: Preparing for the Work and Travel Program” served as one of the program’s highlights. The session featured WAT alumni and a departing participant who shared insights on preparation, workplace expectations, and cultural adaptation. Ma. Cristina Kaye Roxas (Valenzuela Campus), set to depart in March 2026, spoke about her readiness for cultural immersion. Alumni John Denniel Pinuela and Anjela Mae Manalo (Antipolo Campus, WAT 2025) reflected on their experiences, offering practical strategies for adjustment and underscoring the importance of resilience and open-mindedness.

The ceremony also recognized student achievements in national competitions, reflecting OLFU’s commitment to innovation and excellence across its campuses. Among the awardees were winners of the MICE Innovation Challenge 2026, including first place recipient CHIM Quezon City Campus for “Norzavira,” an AI-powered recreation assistant. Entries from the Antipolo and Pampanga campuses secured second and third places, respectively.

In the 2026 World Food Expo (WOFEX), OLFU students earned a silver medal for a novelty cake inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender and a bronze medal for themed cookies inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh. These recognitions highlighted the students’ creativity and technical proficiency in culinary arts.

In her closing message, Prof. Charito Corpus, Program Head of CHIM Antipolo, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to global education.

“This ceremony has highlighted our institution’s commitment to creating global opportunities, strengthening partnerships, and preparing our learners to thrive in both academic and professional arenas. Today, we have witnessed not only the recognition of excellence but also the affirmation of our shared vision—to nurture globally competitive, resilient, and innovative individuals,” she said.

The send-off ceremony underscored OLFU’s sustained efforts to equip students with the competencies and perspectives necessary to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
