Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) proudly marked a national milestone as Kianne Ross Laurin of the College of Medical Laboratory Science emerged as the First Place Winner in the Student Research Poster Presentation at the 18th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week, held on August 13–15, 2025, in Legazpi City, Albay.
The winning study, “Dose Optimizing Sodium Pyrophosphate in PPDA-1 with CPDA-1 as a Control to Inhibit Platelet Clumping in Whole Blood Storage,” earned distinction for its scientific rigor, innovation, and relevance in advancing medical science. By addressing a crucial challenge in blood preservation, the research demonstrated strong potential for practical applications in healthcare and transfusion medicine.
The poster was the product of a collective research collaboration by a dedicated team of Fatimanian researchers from OLFU Pampanga, composed of Kianne Ross Laurin, Ma. Ayessa Aguilar, Alessandra Beatrice Baes, Yna Bartolome, Sharmaine Batu, Girlie Aleli Bondoc, Ronavel Capati, Ma. Aida Ysabel Cserino, Kyra Trixia Carrillo, Bea Ramses Dimarucut, Trina Estrella, Brylle Vincy Gutierrez, Chris Art Ibarra, Lheslly Magtanong, Alyssa Manaloto, Stephen Manaloto, Karylle Miranda, Precious Palotes, Ayen Aaliyha Rosario, Judy Anne Libu, RMT, Clinton Dizon, RMT, and Lorellyn Manaloto, RMT.
Representing Region III – Central Luzon, the team’s win stood as a testament to the region’s research arsenal and OLFU’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of health innovators.
This year’s PNHRS Week, hosted by the Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development (BCHRD) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), gathered more than 500 researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders under the theme “One Health for All: Igniting Transdisciplinary Solutions for a Healthier Philippines.”
The three-day national celebration served as a platform for advancing collaborative research that transcends disciplinary boundaries, uniting experts from human, animal, and environmental health to address pressing challenges in line with the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA). The program featured plenary sessions, policy dialogues, technical committee meetings, and research competitions, with Laurin’s winning presentation among the event’s highlights.
The victory was made possible through the support of OLFU Pampanga, the OLFU Research Development and Innovation Center (RDIC), the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), and the Central Luzon Health Research and Development Consortium (CLHRDC). The mentorship of Judy Anne Bautista-Libu, Research and Alumni Committee Head, also played a pivotal role in guiding the research to success.
The achievement further reinforces OLFU and its partners’ continuing commitment to championing research excellence and advancing scientific contributions that strengthen the country’s health sector.
